Three-pieces suits, however great they look on all of us, seem to be losing their appeal and popularity.

This formal, rather stiff approach to dressing is now out of tune with the way we’re heading. Why would we want to look like the over-bonused head of a failing bank when we can instead adopt a more socially aware style? Even watching Madmen does not make us lust those suits as much, as Don Draper and his colleagues are no longer living quite the dream we thought they were in season one.

Of course, they will always be welcomed during meetings with boss and headhunters, but it is becoming increasingly frowned upon to wear them in late nights cocktail bars or at the entrence to fashion shows.

Henceforth, the warmer months will need us all to loosen up a bit: undo the top button, lighten up a shade or two and soften those shoulders.

There’s a whole host of labels around this spring peddling softly structured designs that have a laid-back feel, while still managing stylish rather than slovenly.

I would particularly recommend the Japenese label Kolor, which produces  double-breasted knitted cardigans that almost feel as if they’re giving you a gentle massage when you slip then on. Team them with some washed denim, loose chinos or cargo pants and a chambrey shirt, and you’re ready to go. I would also advise you to add some colour such as a light blue blazer from Kitsuné, washed pink jeans by Ami or a pair of pea green boat shoes by Quoddy.
